KUALA LUMPUR: The Port Klang Authority (PKA) is looking to implement the Port Klang Net initiative, a digital information-sharing platform meant to connect industry players under a common port and trade-focused community system.

To be implemented on a modular basis, the mandatory initiative will launch eImport and eXport modules on March 1, following three earlier modules set up since 2013.

The modules will transform semi-manual transactions to a fully-electronic platform, PKA said in a statement yesterday.

“The system is also capable of connecting various parties on a regional and international level via various electronic trade platforms that are currently operational or being developed,” PKA added.

Port Klang Net will provide connectivity, enable transparency in transactions across the supply chain, increase operational efficiency and reduce operational costs, PKA said.

“In the process, real-time information shared electronically among the players and relayed to relevant parties responsible for providing various services in the supply chain [which] enables transactions to proceed with minimal delay,” it added.

PKA urged the cooperation of all industry players to register with Port Klang Net and use the eImport and eXport modules for transactions laden with import and export containers.

“This initiative is in response to the feedback from various players in the logistics industry and supply chain as a result of increasing competition among the ports and logistics players in Malaysia, as well as high expectations from customers for increased efficiency and cost reduction,” PKA said.

PKA said it will not impose any charges for the use of the modules for three months until May 31. After that, a fee of RM5 excluding the goods and services tax, will be imposed for a full cycle of import or export transaction of a laden container.
