KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 2): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the Malaysian Government had prepared the National Transformation Plan to help the country achieve high-income developed nation status by 2020, but the full achievement is "dependent on conducive internal and external environment".
Najib wrote in www.najibrazak.com today that the government would continue to implement various initiatives to ensure all economic sectors were resilient and competitive on domestic and global levels.
"This includes diversifying the government's source of income, reducing dependency towards oil and gas income, providing a conducive environment to attract foreign and domestic investments, increasing trade and productivity as well as strengthening the nation's innovation and technological capabilities," he said.
Najib said Malaysia's gross national income (GNI) per capita had risen to US$9,850 (about RM42,209). "Based on the high income target by the World Bank which is above US$12,235, we have reduced the gap towards the high income status target from 38% to 19% (from 2009 to 2016).
He said this clearly proved that the government had consistently implemented policies through the New Economic Model since 2010.
