KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 29): Newly minted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has given PAS Baling Member of Parliament (MP) Hassan Saad three days to make a public apology over a viral audio recording of a woman who had alleged there was Israeli influence in his appointment as the 10th prime minister, which Hassan shared on his Twitter page.
The letter of demand, which was issued on Tuesday (Nov 29) to Hassan and sighted by The Edge through law firm SN Nair & Partners, is also seeking a retraction of the posting in which they claimed was defamatory.
Anwar said the posting, which was uploaded to the Twitter handle "Mohd Ropi Mat Sin", had garnered 431,500 views, 4,800 likes, 3,300 shares and was retweeted 1,400 times.
Anwar, through his lawyers, said the posting also ridiculed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decree for his appointment as premier. He also claimed that it was an insult to Malaysia's royalty.
Anwar's lawyers also said that the Perikatan Nasional MP has three days to deny any involvement in the posting.
If no response is received from Hassan, Anwar's legal team will take further action against him.
Anwar is also seeking a written undertaking for Hassan not to repeat these actions again and is seeking damages and legal costs.
Hassan recently told New Straits Times that he had no idea who was behind the audio.
"I have no idea who did that. I do not wish to comment further," he told the New Straits Times.
