PETALING JAYA (Dec 7): Phase 2 of IOI City Mall by IOI Properties Group Bhd will be fully tenanted and operational for business in the second quarter of 2022 (2Q22).

According to a statement on Dec 6, IOI Properties Group CEO Datuk Voon Tin Yow said IOI City Mall’s Phase 2 began in 2018 and has been progressing even in the midst of numerous lockdowns during the pandemic. IOI City Mall is located within IOI Resort City in Putrajaya and it will become the biggest retail, entertainment-cum-shopping mall in Malaysia.

“This new phase of ICM (IOI City Mall) will add an additional 1 million sq ft of net lettable area (NLA), bringing the total NLA to 2.5 million square feet. Despite the unpredictable market environment in recent years, we have managed to secure around 70% tenants for the new phase, and more and more tenants are signing up. Those which have signed up in the 70% group for Phase 2 include current and trendy brands such as Best Denki, Food Empire, MajuHome, Nitori, Objet, Valiram Group and many others,” he added.

According to the statement, the mall will house 11 anchor tenants. AEON, GSC, Proton, IOI Sports Centre and IOI Grand Hall are the new tenants joining the current ones, which are Lotus’s, Harvey Norman, HomePro, Parkson, Icescape Ice Rink and District 21 Indoor Adventure Theme Park.

Voon stated the mall has had a steady occupancy rate of around 98% to 99% since its opening of Phase 1 in 2014.

“This is a very good testimony from our tenants, as they have full confidence on how we manage the mall in various ways, extending to shoppers a good mix of brands, both local and international. Our strong anchor tenants also help draw a discernible mix of customers to the mall,” he said.

IOI City Mall has a catchment customer population of about 3.1 million people, from the various townships mushrooming along the south corridor of South Klang Valley Expressway. IOI Resort City has good access to six major highways, with 12 ingress or egress points that directly serve this development. It is also only a 20-minute drive to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

IOI City Mall’s Phase 2 complements the existing interior and exterior designs of the mall, with a central glass atrium that brings in natural light through the six-storey building. Phase 2 also houses a 40,000 sq ft exhibition hall, a new cinema concept with an IMAX hall, a modern dining arcade, a new rooftop sports centre and a gymnasium, in addition to retail outlets.

Being located within IOI Resort City means that hotels are just within reach. Hotels in IOI Resort City include Putrajaya Marriott Hotel, Le Meridien Putrajaya and Palm Garden Hotel, Putrajaya, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. Moxy Hotel, which is currently under construction, will soon be added to the list.
