KUALA LUMPUR (May 11): Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has signed three engineering, procurement, construction and commission (EPCC) contracts for the development of its petrochemical plants at the Pengerang Integrated Complex.

In a statement today, Petronas said two EPCC contracts were signed with a consortium comprising Samsung Engineering Co Ltd, Samsung C&T Corp and Samsung Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd for a linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) plant and an ethylene oxide ethylene glycol (EOEG) plant.

The third EPCC contract was signed with a consortium featuring Tecnimont SpA, Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corp, Technimonthqc Sdn Bhd and TecnimontHQC S.c.a.r.l for a polypropylene (PP) plant.

“Both consortiums received their respective letter of award from PRPC Polymers Sdn Bhd (for LLDPE and PP) and PRPC Glycols Sdn Bhd (for EOEG), late last year. The three plants are expected to be completed by early 2019,” Petronas said.

It added that the LLDPE plant, upon completion, will be able to produce 350,000 metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LLDPE.

The EOEG plant, meanwhile, will produce 740,000 mtpa of Monoethylene Glycol (MEG); and the PP plant will produce 900,000 mtpa of homopolymer and copolymer polypropylene.
