KUALA LUMPUR (June 3): National oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has alerted the public to fake social media accounts posing as its president and group chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik.

In an announcement on May 30, Petronas urged members of the public to not follow these fake social media accounts.

“It has come to our attention that there are fake social media accounts posing as Petronas president and group CEO Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik.

“The management of Petronas would like to clarify that Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik currently has no social media accounts in his professional capacity as the president and group CEO of Petronas,” it said.

Petronas added that fake accounts can be used as platforms to share false information and obtain or misuse personal information as well.

These accounts can also be sold to other unscrupulous parties, it shared.
