KUALA LUMPUR (March 24): Yayasan Petronas, the corporate social responsibility arm of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), is contributing medical equipment and supplies worth RM20 million to help hospitals and healthcare front-liners mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia.

The contribution will be carried out in stages, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), Yayasan Petronas said in a statement.

The MoH and NADMA will be channelling the critical medical equipment and supplies, including ventilators, hospital beds and mattresses, thermal imaging cameras, digital thermometers, virus test kits, masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) to gazetted hospitals for Covid-19 and quarantine centres, the foundation said.

Hand sanitisers will also be provided to senior citizens at selected homes, it added.

Yayasan Petronas chief executive officer Lita Osman said the foundation is truly grateful to health workers and enforcement personnels who are working hard to stop the pandemic.

“They need all the help they can get, particularly as there are more than a thousand patients currently in treatment,” said Lita.

“Together, Yayasan Petronas is working with the government agencies to provide support at a time when the community needs it most. Our effort also reflects Petronas’ commitment towards improving the wellbeing of society,” she added.

The initiative complements the recent initiative by another Petronas unit, Petronas Dagangan Bhd (PDB), which had contributed cartons of Mesra mineral water and Mesra Bites buns to the medical staff stationed at the Covid-19 Screening Centre at Hospital Sungai Buloh, Selangor.

PDB will also provide similar contributions to Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (PPUM), Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) and Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM), the statement added.
