KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 16): Petronas Gas Bhd (PetGas) has received its first commercial liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo recently at its newly-commissioned Regasification Terminal Pengerang (RGTP) in Pengerang, Johor.

The LNG cargo, belonging to Petroliam Nasional Bhd, was delivered to the RGTP by MISC Bhd's LNG vessel, Seri Begawan. RGTP is PetGas' second regasification facility to commence operation after its first facility in Sungai Udang, Melaka.

The facility is operated by Pengerang LNG (Two) Sdn Bhd (PLNG2 Sdn Bhd), in which PetGas owns a 65% stake while the remaining shares are held by Dialog LNG Sdn Bhd (25%) and Permodalan Darul Takzim (10%).

"The commencement of the commercial operations of RGTP on Nov 1, 2017 marks a very significant growth milestone for PetGas. It strengthens our regasification business segment and will provide additional revenue stream to PetGas," said PetGas managing director and chief executive officer Kamal Bahrin Ahmad.

Prior to this, the RGTP has received three commissioning cargoes on Sept 1, Sept 23, and Oct 17, he added. Kamal is also chairman of PLNG2 Sdn Bhd.

The RGTP comprises an LNG regasification unit with a total capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per annum, two units of 200,000m3 LNG storage tanks, and a jetty which can receive up to 90 LNG standard to Q-Max carriers per year.

It is built to provide primary gas supply to the refinery and petrochemical plants, as well as the Pengerang Cogeneration Plant in the Pengerang Integrated Complex, and to the Peninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) system to augment the availability of gas in the country.

PetGas said the RGTP delivered the first gas to the PGU pipeline on Sept 15.

At Bursa Malaysia, PetGas shares closed 30 sen or 1.78% higher at RM17.18, with a market capitalisation of RM33.76 billion.
