KUALA LUMPUR (June 1): Perisai Petroleum Teknologi Bhd announced that it has obtained the agreement of PPL Shipyard Pte Ltd to defer the delivery of two jack-up rigs, Perisai Pacific 102 and Perisai Pacific 103.
The company said PPL had agreed to extend the delivery date for both rigs to Aug 31, 2017, in view of the slump in the upstream oil and gas sector.
"Seeing that the offshore drilling is currently facing soft market conditions globally, the directors of Perisai are of the opinion that the further deferment is in the best interest of the company," said Perisai in a bourse filing.
It said the parties have also agreed to seek and evaluate any options that may arise during the deferment period.
To recap, Perisai was awarded the contract for the construction of Perisai Pacific 102 in February 2013 for US$210 million, to be delivered in the second quarter of 2015, before being deferred to March 31, 2016, and later to Oct 31, 2016.
Meanwhile, the contract for Perisai Pacific 103 was awarded in December 2013 and was supposed to be delivered by July 30, 2016, before it was revised to Oct 31, 2016.
Perisai closed unchanged at 5 sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM63.02 million.
