KUALA LUMPUR (May 11): Sultan Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah has given untill tomorrow to Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional to prove they have at least a simple majority of 30 state seats to form the new Perak government, Bernama reported today.

Dewan Negara Perak member Datuk Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini said BN was given until tomorrow morning, while PH has until 2pm tomorrow, to prove which party has the required 30 state seats.

"According to the official Election Commission report, Pakatan Harapan has 29 seats, so Sultan Nazrin has offered them the first choice to form the new state government, with the condition that they have [support from] the majority 30 seats," Mohd Annuar reportedly told reporters outside the Kinta Palace today.

"However, this morning, the Sultan's office received a letter from BN, informing them that the party has a simple majority, which is 27 state seats, and three seats from PAS. The letter said [PAS] has agreed to form the government with BN," Mohd Annuar said, adding that the Sultan wants the letter's validity to be proven and so has asked BN to bring along proof, alongside support of 30 state assemblymen, tomorrow morning.

Mohd Annuar said if PH cannot prove they have a simple majority tomorrow, Sultan Nazrin will not delay the formation of the state government. "The Sultan has to act based on the constitution," Mohd Annuar said.

Earlier today, PH's state leadership — comprising DAP state chairman Nga Kor Ming, Amanah state chief Asmuni Awi and PKR state chief Dr Muhammad Nor Manuty, as well as PH state chairman Ahmad Faizal Azumu — had an audience with the Sultan.

They entered the palace grounds at around 3.25pm and left an hour later.

On polling day (May 9), PH secured 29 out of 59 available state seats, while BN won 27 and PAS took three.
