(August 5): Penang PKR will submit five memorandums to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today to complain about allegations of corruption in political funding.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said that the RM2.6 billion in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal accounts was political donations.

The move comes after the anti-graft agency said that the RM2.6 billion in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal accounts was from political donations.

Penang PKR election committee chairman Datuk Abdul Malik Abul Kassim said it was regrettable that it seemed MACC, which is in the midst of investigating the case, had been affected by "hidden hands".

He said the perception was such, following recent developments surrounding the authorities' investigations into scandals involving the money.

This included the detention of MACC special operations Datuk Bahri Mohamad Zin and the commission's deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Sazilee Abdul Khairy for police questioning over the leak in probes into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

Others were the elevation of four Public Accounts Committee (PAC) members, who were involved in investigations into 1MDB to minister and deputy ministers in the Cabinet reshuffle last week.

"Why put them in the Cabinet now? Why not after the probes have been completed? And why can't the PAC continue its proceedings and have to wait until the Parliament sits in October?

"And look at the Special Task Force panel. First, the former Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail has been terminated, then there were rumours that Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz is unwell, and now it is reported that MACC commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed was on leave during the investigations into the money that went into the PM's accounts.

"I think of the four, only the Inspector-General of Police (Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar) is left," he told a press conference at Yayasan Aman in Penanti, Penang today.

He said the five memorandums will be sent to Penang MACC this afternoon, where a report would also be lodged.

The five memorandum will complain on the previous allegation that the RM2.6 billion channeled into Najib's account was political funds for the 13th general election two years ago from 1MDB; and how the state-owned investment fund overpaid RM1.2 billion for assets acquired from Genting Berhad.

The third and fourth complaint are over allegations that Genting Plantations Berhad used shareholders' revenue to donate to Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia (YR1M). The fifth complaint is on allegations that YR1M misused funds meant for the less fortunate.

Malik said the complaints came from PKR, and also non-governmental organisations the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0), Transparency Malaysia and Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4).

He said PKR in other states will also lodge similar reports with MACC and hand over the memorandums.

"We urge MACC to take action and investigate, especially because the issues raised clearly vioates the Election Offences Act," he said.

Earlier today, PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli said Barisan Nasional would have broken election laws if it had spent the RM2.6 billion for the general election. The spending limit set under the law for election candidates is RM200,000. – The Malaysian Insider
