KUALA LUMPUR: Islamist party PAS is expected to act against members who have joined the New Hope Movement (GHB) splinter group in its central committee meeting this weekend.

According to a source, the party made the decision last week, following mounting pressure for action to be taken against the rogue members.

“It is highly likely that two PAS leaders active in Kelantan will be suspended from the party,” the source said.

He declined, however, to reveal details on the identities of the two leaders and the outcome of the meeting.

It is believed that the move came after Kota Baru PAS, headed by Kelantan GHB coordinator Datuk Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Abdullah, decided to sack the party’s secretary-general Datuk Takiyudin Hassan as the division’s central committee member.

The decision to sack Takiyudin was made in the division meeting on July 15, two days before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

In that meeting, Wan Abdul Rahim reportedly removed Kota Baru elections director Hamid Seman as well.

Both were elected into the division’s central committee.

Wan Abdul Rahim is also said to have handed over his role as PAS Kota Baru chief to his deputy Dr Rosni Alani Abdul Kadir, while he himself went on leave.

On Sunday, it was reported that Kuala Terengganu PAS, in a move to quash GHB’s influence in the state, had decided to sever ties with its parliament representative, Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin. — The Malaysian Insider
