(June 26): The Selangor chapters of PAS, DAP and PKR will discuss this Sunday the future of the opposition parties in the state, following the formal end of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) as an alliance.

Organised by PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, the discussions will be held during a buka puasa event attended by himself as Selangor menteri besar, MPs in the state, assemblymen, executive councillors and village chiefs, at his official residence in Shah Alam.

"Selangor PKR will hold a meeting at 4pm before the buka puasa event," said Azmin's press secretary, Shuhaimi Shafei, when approached by reporters in Shah Alam today.

Shuhaimi, who is also Selangor PKR information chief, said the meeting would allow all three parties talk to one another in an informal setting, after PAS's motion to end ties with DAP earlier this month left party relations strained.

He said the relationship between the three parties became worse when the Selangor Backbenchers Club (BBC), comprising the state's elected representatives of the three parties, which was supposed to meet early June had to be postponed after PAS made its decision.

"We set that BBC meet four to five days after the muktamar, but it had to be postponed because of the heightened tensions and until today, it has yet to meet," he said.

He said the administration was proceeding as usual, including the Pakatan Rakyat working committee which was still conducting its meetings to discuss political appointments to local councils and community levels.

He said Azmin as PKR deputy president had since last month become the "middle man" to have a few meetings at the national and state levels in an effort to ensure unity in Selangor.

The move is aimed at ensuring Azmin remained menteri besar after his predecessor Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was booted from his post in September last year.

"The feedback we received is between 60% and 70% of PR assemblymen have met directly with the MB and we are confident that the alliance we had since 2008 will be continued," he said. – The Malaysian Insider
