KUANTAN (Nov 21): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission made 14 arrests for various corruption offences in Pahang this year, of which nine involved civil servants, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said today.
"Of the nine civil servants, one was suspended after being charged and sentenced by the Special Corruption Court, while four others were interdicted with a 50-percent pay cut," he said in response to Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji (PKR-Mentakab) at the 13th State Assembly sitting here today.
Adnan added that one of them was still on normal duty but paid only half of the salary due, another had chosen to resign during the trial and the rest were on the job as usual.
Meanwhile, Basic Amenities and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Ir Mohd Soffi Abd Razak said all developments in Cameron Highlands complied with the rules and guidelines set by the state government.
"The state government always takes into account the balance between land development and the economy to prevent the 48,000 residents there are not affected in terms of income and quality of life," he replied to a query by Leong Ngah Ngah (DAP-Tanah Rata), on the action against large scale land clearing at the highlands.
