SINGAPORE (Jan 11): Offshore marine services provider PACC Offshore Services Holdings (POSH) says POSH Terasea has secured a project to provide towage and positioning services to Shell Prelude floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) platform, the world’s largest offshore facility.

POSH Terasea is POSH’s specialist offshore service contractor joint venture. It will tow the Shell Prelude FLNG over 3,000 nautical miles from Samsung Shipyard in South Korea to Australia, where it will be deployed. It will also position the FLNG before the floating facility begin production. POSH Terasea will deploy five vessels for the project.

No financial details were disclosed.

“Towing and positioning a floating facilities that is about four times the size of a football field from Korea to a gas field in Australia will be a massive and complex undertaking,” says president and director of POSH Terasea Eric Ng.

The FLNG facility is 488 metres long and 74 metres wide, and has around 260,000 tonnes of steel in the facility – about five times the amount needed to build Sydney Harbour Bridge.

POSH closed 1.7% lower at 29.5 cents.
