KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 21): RHB Banking Group has appointed Oliver Tan as the managing director of RHB Insurance Bhd effective Monday (Feb 21).

In a statement, the banking group said Tan succeeds Kong Shu Yin, who retired on the same date.

It said Tan had 22 years of experience within the insurance industry locally and regionally.

Prior to joining RHB Insurance, he held various senior positions, including as the chief executive officer at MPI Generali Insurans Bhd, Swiss Reinsurance Company Ltd in Kuala Lumpur and the head of the Kuala Lumpur branch, managing business operations in Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei and Myanmar.

He also held various senior positions in AIU Insurance Company Ltd in Shanghai and AXA General Insurance Hong Kong Ltd.

Oliver holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Staffordshire Polytechnic in the UK and a Certificate in Legal Practice from Universiti Malaya.

He is also a fellow of the Malaysian Insurance Institute since 2017.

RHB Banking Group principal officer Mohd Rashid Mohamad said Tan brings with him extensive experience in general insurance, both locally and within the region.

“His appointment as the managing director of RHB Insurance will further enhance the strength of our senior management team, while his knowledge and proven track record will contribute towards further strengthening RHB Insurance’s position within the insurance industry,” Mohd Rashid added.
