KUALA LUMPUR (April 30): The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) has appointed Nor Azimah Abd Aziz as its new chief executive officer, effective May 1.

Nor Azimah, who was previously the deputy CEO in charge of corporate affairs, takes over from Dr Azman Hussin.

In a statement today, SSM said Nor Azimah is a trained lawyer with broad experience in the fields of corporate law, enforcement and corporate affairs.

She joined SSM in 2003 as a General Manager of the Policy Planning and Corporate Development unit and was subsequently made deputy CEO in charge of Regulation & Enforcement on May 1, 2016.

Prior to joining SSM, Nor Azimah was a practising lawyer as well as a law lecturer at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

She was admitted as an advocate and solicitor in 1992 after completing her legal studies at the Institute Technology Mara (now Universiti Teknologi Mara). She also holds a Masters in Business law from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, in the UK.
