DATUK Seri Nazir Razak is also looking at a suit against an anonymous blogger with the username "ahrily90", who has been uncovered as being behind the attacks against the prominent banker and other personalities.
The CIMB group chairman said he, his wife and two children had been subjected to such attacks since early last year after his widely read article entitled “Remembering my father, Tun Razak” was published on January 14 and after he commented on the debt-ridden state investment firm 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
While he has been aware of the blog attacks by "ahrily90" for several months which he described as lies and slander which had hurt his family, Nazir said he have been unable to take legal and police action against the blogger because of his inability to ascertain the identity of the individuals behind the blogs.
"I note from Datuk Tong Kooi Ong’s press statement on February 6 that he has a trail of evidence that proves the identity of 'ahrily90', the person behind these attacks," he said in reference to The Edge Media Group owner who is one of the personalities attacked by the blogger.
"If this is indeed the case, upon my own review of the evidence, I will certainly initiate civil and criminal proceedings against the person concerned. I will also be investigating any additional recourse available for Internet slander against minors," he said in a statement today.
The brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the possible action was solely and wholly premised on the need to protect not only his reputation, but his wife and children from such despicable blog attacks.
"Above all, Azlina and I have been extremely concerned and distressed that the attacks featured slanderous accusations against our innocent young children, actions that most parents would agree are ones that cross the boundaries of human decency," he added.
The Edge Financial Daily reported on Tuesday that the anonymous blogger "ahrily90" had two blogs which targeted Nazir: kamibukanbodohtau.wordpress.com and corruptednazirrazak.wordpress.com.
The blogger also wrote on malaysianexpose.wordpress.com and is behind the attacks on Tong and former long-serving prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, while running other blogs which are favourable towards businessman Low Taek Jho.
One common thread behind the attacks appeared to be the fact that The Edge had been publishing exposes about strategic investment vehicle 1MDB, while Dr Mahathir had been openly critical of it, even saying it was unnecessary and should be shut down.
Two other blogs, kronismemahathir.wordpress.com and politikukus.wordpress.com, had been running since mid-2014. The blogs started attacking Dr Mahathir since last July.
The same blogger also wrote on three blogs which praised 1MDB and Jho Low: bisnes2malaysia.wordpress.com, todayinbusiness.wordpress.com and worldofcorporate.wordpress.com.
However, Low, popularly known as Jho Low, denied being part of the attacks against the trio. – February 8, 2015.
