PETALING JAYA (May 15): Nando’s Malaysia has launched its nationwide Kind Dining initiative, which is taking place from May 15-31, 2020, where patrons can donate non-perishable food items and receive a 20% discount on their own Nando’s meals.

In a statement, Nando's said Kind Dining is a community support initiative in partnership with food security NGOs such as The Lost Food Project, Suriana Malaysia, Yayasan Foodbank, GoJobMy, Kechara Soup Kitchen and other local charity homes within the Nando’s community.

The first-of-its-kind effort by Nando’s will involve the collection of non-perishable food items that can be channelled to vulnerable communities whose livelihoods have been impacted by Covid-19 and the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Nando's Malaysia CEO Stephen Chew said this is a difficult time for a lot of people.

“This pandemic has shown that deep down, we all want to spread kindness and do what we can to give back. We at Nando’s feel privileged to be in a position which makes spreading generosity, positivity, and unity possible.

"We hope to rally more people together and to distribute as much food as possible through Kind Dining, just in time for the Raya celebrations and keep the flame of hope burning in our communities,” he said.

To contribute to the initiative, the public can visit any of the 72 Nando’s outlets currently in operation with their food donations. The donors will then receive a discount of 20% for their next dine-in or takeaway at Nando’s.

Suitable donation items include new and unopened dry rice, dry noodles, canned foods, cooking oil, bottled drinks, powdered milk, instant oats, flour, and sugar. All items must be Halal, edible and before their use-by date.

Interested parties may visit www.nandos.com.my for a list of Nando’s outlets that are open and accepting donations during the Conditional MCO.

In addition to Kind Dining, Nando’s said it has also been donating food through its Chicken with a Heart initiative, which is carried out in partnership with NGOs such as Kechara Soup Kitchen, Yayasan Foodbank, Suriana Welfare Society and GoJobMy.

The effort, which started three months ago, saw total donations of over RM70,000 worth of food, which were delivered to over 5,000 frontliners and vulnerable members of the community.
