KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 20): North America-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted US$1.33 billion in orders worldwide in October 2015 (three-month average basis) and a book-to-bill ratio of 0.98, according to the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI).

A book-to-bill of 0.98 means that US$98 worth of orders were received for every US$100 of product billed for the month.

In a statetement on its website on Nov 19, SEMI said the bookings figure was 14.7% lower than the final September 2015 level of US$1.55 billion, and is 20.3% higher than the October 2014 order level of US$1.10 billion.

SEMI president and CEO Denny McGuirk said both bookings and billings weakened for the second consecutive month; however, year-to-date bookings and billings levels remain above last year's levels.

"SEMI will update its 2016 equipment outlook during SEMICON Japan next month,” he said.
