SEREMBAN (Dec 13): Hypermarket operator Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd is on an expansion mode with the opening of its biggest outlet in the country at Seremban 2 here, today.

Its managing director Datuk Dr Ameer Ali Mydin said the new outlet, costing RM275 million, is the company's 13th hypermarket spanning 950,000 sq metres and offers 250 retail lots for rent.

"This is our 13th hypermarket in the country, where the first hypermarket was opened seven years ago in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

"We chose this location for our largest hypermarket, as we found that the population of the area has reached to between 100,000 and 150,000 people; besides, this township is booming," he said after officiating the opening of Mydin hypermarket here, today.

He said Mydin Seremban 2 had also introduced the self-scanning system — the first such service in Southeast Asia, where the technology represents a new revolution to improve operational efficiency.

With the introduction of the new technology, he said customers would require shorter time to make payment and need not queue for long, to wait for their turn.

"The e-payment service has also been introduced to facilitate purchases, and the most special — the Touch & Go card, can be used to make payment, hence giving more choices for customers to make payment," he said.

Meanwhile, Ameer Ali said the company also planned to open five more hypermarkets next year, with an estimated investment of RM650 million.

He said the outlets, expected to be opened between March and April 2014, are located in Semenyih, Selangor, Gong Badak in Terengganu, and two in Johor Baharu, at Taman Rinting and Pelangi Indah.
