KUALA LUMPUR (July 12): Economist Dr Muhammed Abdul Khalid has been appointed as an independent and non-executive director of Allianz Malaysia Bhd.
The appointment takes effect on July 15, the company said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.
Muhammad, who served as the economic adviser to former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and as a member of the Economic Action Council from 2018 to 2020, is currently a research fellow at the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research, and adjunct professor at the Centre for Policy Research and International Studies of Universiti Sains Malaysia, said Allianz.
Muhammad, 46, is also a member of the honorary council of advisors at the European-Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and member of the economic committee of Malaysia Competition Commission.
He has also served as a consultant for the World Bank, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Children's Fund, the UN Population Fund, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, and the UN High Commission for Refugees.
“He had also served as director of research at Khazanah Research Institute, head of economics at the Securities Commission Malaysia and as senior analyst at the Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia. He was also a senior technical advisor at the UNDP Malaysia,” said Allianz.
Allianz’s share price finished unchanged at RM12.82 on Tuesday (July 12), bringing it a market capitalisation of RM2.28 billion.
