KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 9): Motorola Solutions Malaysia Sdn Bhd's research and development (R&D) centre in Penang celebrated its 40th year of operations this week.
The centre is Motorola Solutions' largest R&D centre in the world, focused on producing mission critical communication devices and public safety solutions.
"One of the primary reasons why we came to Penang in the first place is because frankly Asia is the birthplace of a lot of technology and innovation that then expands throughout the world," said corporate vice president of Motorola Solutions Inc's Claudia Rodriguez.
In conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the R&D facility in Penang, a new Network Operations Centre to monitor and manage customers' essential communications will also be unveiled.
"Staffed 24/7 by a skilled and dedicated team, the centre will provide guaranteed reliability and availability to keep communications networks operating at peak performance while customers focus on their core operations," Motorola Solutions said in a statement today.
In addition to its product design and development facilities, the Penang facility has laboratories fitted with advanced testing equipment to conduct rigorous compliance testing of radio products.
Known as Innoplex, this is a one-stop design centre comprising highly skilled teams from various disciplines including industrial design, software, electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical engineering and programme management, the company added.
Earlier today Motorola Solutions, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, announced its decision to acquire Australian development firm Gridstone.
Gridstone, a privately held company which specialises in iOS apps for public agency use, will now become a wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based Motorola Solutions.
