(Oct 1): Consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will now have an easier time paying the water bill via online payment service, JomPAY.

“We want to bring the business to the 21st century. People can now skip the traffic jams and hassle of looking for parking just to pay their bill at a counter,” said Syabas chief executive officer Datuk Ruslan Hassan.

He was speaking after the signing of the agreement between Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) Sdn Bhd and Malaysian Electronic Clearing Corporation Sdn Bhd (MyClear), a Bank Negara subsidiary, today in Shah Alam.

Ruslan said bill payments can now be made online through 40 banking institutions. Previously, customers could only pay through 17 banks appointed by Syabas.

Syabas also inked an agreement with E-pay (M) Sdn Bhd to allow customers to pay their bills through e-pay facilities at almost 6,000 petrol stations and convenience stores.

Syabas’s final agreement with MOL Accessportal Sdn Bhd will allow bill payment at nearly 800 7-Eleven outlets in Selangor, KL and Putrajaya.

To promote the new bill payment methods, the Water Bill Payment Using JomPAY Promotion Campaign was launched. From October 15 to December 31, the first 100 online bill payers daily will receive a RM10 rebate, which will be reflected in the following month’s bill.

“The rebate is a token of appreciation from Syabas,” Ruslan said.

He said 30% of all bill payments received were made online. – The Malaysian Insider
