KUALA LUMPUR (June 12): "I get so sad when people say 'Oh, it's just a food court'," laments Huen Su San only half-jokingly. The serial entrepreneur and founder of local cloud kitchen pioneer Cookhouse has been exceptionally busy of late promoting her latest venture, the Artisan's Playground by Cookhouse, which is right on track to becoming Kuala Lumpur's hottest experimental, interactive and immersive dining space.
Having soft-launched on March 31, the Artisan's Playground follows on Huen's original Cookhouse concept — where food entrepreneurs rent kitchen space to support their businesses without the need for heavy capital investment — but with a seriously stylish and decidedly more premium twist.
Some of the city's best and brightest names have already signed up, including Raymond Tham of Beta KL and Skillet 163 fame, Diego Reali of Natalina, World Pastry Cup 2019 champions, Otto Tay and Loi Ming Ai, and the popular Chinese restaurant chain, the Extra Super Tanker group. Artisan's Playground's large and adaptable space means it is also able to accommodate every variety of event or entertaining scenario. Read more in our cover story this week.
Additionally, milestones are being feted across various fields: Chen Shoo Sang wrote about his life in "My Story" and, 12 years on, his daughter May Yee adds the illustrations; founders of Pan Productions KL talk about financial sustainability as they embrace their 12th year with a new show; Yayasan Sime Darby on the other hand celebrates 40 years of supporting Malaysian communities across its five pillars.
With Father's Day just around the corner, take advantage of our selection of thoughtful gifts to mark the occasion or treat dad to dinner (or a trip up North!) after you read up on chef Chai Chun Boon's culinary showcase at The Datai, Langkawi.
