KUALA LUMPUR (May 30): The Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) has elected Datuk Gan Ah Tee as the council’s president, and Soo Hoo Khoon Yean as its vice president.
In a statement on Monday (May 30), the homegrown Malaysian professional accountancy body said the pair’s election to their respective positions for the 2022 to 2023 term came after a council meeting following its 64th annual general meeting on May 28, 2022.
MICPA noted that Gan — a managing partner of BDO Malaysia and regional senior partner of BDO in Asean — was elected to the MICPA Council in 2008.
“With over 38 years’ experience in auditing, accounting and advisory services, Gan specialises in corporate turnaround and financial restructuring of underperforming companies. Gan is also a council member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and a member of its oversight committee.
“He was a council member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and a member of the Financial Reporting Foundation, a trustee body responsible for the oversight of the Malaysia Accounting Standard Board’s performance, financial and funding arrangements,” it said.
Meanwhile, MICPA said Soo Hoo — PwC Malaysia’s managing partner and PwC Malaysia-Vietnam firm territory senior partner — was elected to the MICPA Council in 2020.
“He is also the chairman of PwC’s South East Asia Consulting practice. He has over 27 years of diversified experience providing audit and business advisory services to clients in the financial services industry in Malaysia as well as around the region.
“He has served as a member of the ACCA Malaysia Advisory Council as well as a council member of the MIA. Currently, he remains as a member of the Public Practice Committee (PPC) in MIA. Soo Hoo is also a board member of the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC),” the council said.
