KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 15): Lembaga Tabung Haji chairman Tan Sri Md Nor Yusof has resigned on Thursday (Oct 14), theedgemarkets.com learnt, a little three years after he was appointed to chair the pilgrim fund.

The accountant by training was appointed as chairman on July 10, 2018. His past roles include executive chairman of the Securities Commission and chairman of Malaysia Airlines Bhd.

Md Nor’s appointment as TH chairman at the time was seen as institutionalising the appointment of a professional to the chairman’s post, which used to be held by politicians.

During his tenure, TH underwent a restructuring to close the gap between its assets and liabilities, followed by a three-year investment plan from 2021, with the main focus of strategic asset allocation (SAA) on fixed income, real estate and equity.

In a town hall farewell speech sighted by theedgemarkets.com, Md Nor called upon TH employees “to continue to uphold the mission and vision of the fund willingly and sincerely”.

“Working in TH is something very unique and different from other jobs. At TH, we are helping and making it possible for the ummah to perform Hajj — an effort that is pure and observed by God,” he said.

Md Nor’s stint in TH saw three changes in the fund’s chief executive officer position.

On May 6, TH appointed the then-chief executive officer of Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin as its new CEO.

Amrin took over from Datuk Nik Mohd Hasyudeen Yusoff, who was appointed to the role on Sept 1, 2020. Mohd Hasyudeen was appointed after the early exit of Datuk Seri Zukri Samat, who was himself appointed in July 2018 to steer the turnaround at TH.
