KUALA LUMPUR (April 25): Permodalan Nasional Bhd's (PNB) wholly-owned subsidiary PNB Development Sdn Bhd said on Monday McDonald’s will build a quick-service restaurant with dine-in and drive-thru facilities at PNB Development's 2,814-acre (about 1,126ha) township in Kota Seriemas in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan pursuant to the sale of an approximately 0.64-acre (0.26ha) commercial land in Kota Seriemas by PNB Development's wholly-owned subsidiary Seriemas Development Sdn Bhd to Malaysia's McDonald’s licensee Gerbang Alaf Restaurants Sdn Bhd.

In a statement on Monday (April 25), PNB Development said McDonald’s planned restaurant in Kota Seriemas, which is near the KLIA Aeropolis real estate project, is targeted to be opened for business in early 2023 and that the outlet will be McDonald’s second drive-thru restaurant in Nilai.

"By year 2026, McDonald’s is targeting to open 205 new restaurants that will bring the total number of McDonald’s restaurants in Malaysia to 500," PNB Development said.

PNB Development is the real estate arm of Malaysian government-owned fund management company PNB.

According to PNB Development, Seriemas Development has entered into the sale and purchase agreement with Gerbang Alaf for the land sale, the transaction value of which was not disclosed.

PNB's Malaysia real estate head Mazuki Abdullah said in the statement: “This initiative is in line with PNB’s real estate investment strategy and philosophy of partnering with proven catalytic component enablers for township development."

"This strategic move will definitely positively contribute to the entire development of Kota Seriemas,” he said.

According to PNB Development, McDonald’s presence in Kota Seriemas was curated as part of an ongoing rejuvenation plan together with a series of initiatives to further enhance the vibrancy of the township.

Seriemas Development is also actively engaging with strategic property market players to jointly explore development opportunities in Kota Seriemas, according to PNB Development.

"To-date, 2,440 landed and strata homes of various types are nestled within Kota Seriemas. As a master developer, Seriemas Development is opening up its doors to developers for the outright purchase of its [Seriemas Development] residential and commercial development lands as well as joint ventures (JVs) in alignment with its goal of fully realising Kota Seriemas’ potential as the preferred address for a quality lifestyle," Seriemas Development said.
