KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 30): Maxis Bhd, Digi.Com Bhd and Celcom Axiata Bhd mobile telecommunication network subscribers may face "service disruptions" as these companies recalibrate their base stations nationwide. This follows the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission's (MCMC) recent spectrum reallocation.

In a statement today, MCMC unit Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia (CFM) said the recalibration, also known as spectrum migration, had started since September 2016 for completion by June 2017.

"To minimise the impact of this migration exercise to the general public during the said migration period, the SPs (service providers) have scheduled for selected stations to be reconfigured between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. However, the timing of the process taken may vary, subject to the respective SPs.

"Consumers may be facing temporary service disruptions, primarily for 2G customers who might experience dropped calls and/or SMS/messaging delays during this period," CFM said.

MCMC's website indicates Maxis, Digi and Celcom's spectrum migration followed reallocation of the 900MHz and 1800MHz spectrum bands announced by MCMC on Feb 1, 2016.

MCMC said: "This spectrum migration exercise will enable them to provide subscribers with mobile services utilising latest technologies."
