KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 5): Malaysia Venture Capital Management Bhd (MAVCAP) has appointed Shahril Anas Hasan Aziz as its chief executive officer, effective Oct 1, 2020.

In a statement today, MAVCAP said Shahril has more than 25 years of experience in the investment industry including venture capital (VC), with extensive expertise in investment and fundraising.

Having joined MAVCAP in 2015, Shahril has played an instrumental role in collaborating with foreign partners and corporate partners to create VC funds, known as the Strategic Funds model, generating more funds in the ecosystem, it said.

MAVCAP said through the VC funds created with partners via the Strategic Funds model, Shahril continues to be actively involved in nurturing start-up companies in the ICT industry as well as other high-growth industries such as Internet of Things, e-commerce and fintech.  

Prior to joining MAVCAP, Shahril worked with the Employees Provident Fund, Malaysia Technology Development Corporation and Unit Peneraju Bumiputera (TERAJU), among others.

He is a graduate of the International Islamic University, Kuala Lumpur with a Bachelor of Economics (Hons).

MAVCAP chairman Datuk Noharuddin Nordin said given Shahril’s in-depth experience and proven track record, he is confident the latter will continue to drive MAVCAP forward in cultivating a vibrant VC ecosystem for Malaysia and spurring local and regional opportunities for start-ups and entrepreneurs.
