KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 19): Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua said the Malaysian Government had "shown shocking indifference" to the US Department of Justice's (DOJ) civil forfeiture complaints involving 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB)-linked assets.

In a statement, Pua said this was despite the DOJ's claim that 1MDB officials and their associates stole more than US$3.5 billion (about RM14 billion) from 1MDB between 2009 and 2015, and laundered at least U$1 billion through the US.

"Despite the enormity of the scam and scandal, the Malaysian Government has shown shocking indifference to the exposé.

"Despite all of the above substantiated allegations made by the DOJ, there have been no concrete actions taken by Malaysian authorities," Pua said.

He also questioned the need to wait for the DOJ's legal process to be concluded before Malaysian authorities "follow up with the necessary actions".
