SINGAPORE (Dec 16): Malaysia Smelting Corporation Bhd unveiled its sixth fuel-fired reverberatory furnace in Butterworth today.

The new furnace was built at a cost of about RM3.5 million ($1.3 million) and is expected to contribute an additional 15% to the company’s overall smelting capacity.

MSC’s smelter has been operating for the past 112 years. The company’s current annual refined tin production is about 35,000 tonnes representing about 10% of the world production of refined tin.

MSC said the expansion is in line with its strategy to consolidate its position as the largest and most cost effective custom tin smelter in the world.

MSC closed at $1.06 on Nov 28.
