KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 11): Malaysia logged 3,384 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative confirmed infections to 254,988.

Thirteen more deaths due to the pandemic were reported, bringing the country’s Covid-19 death toll to 936, the Health Ministry said in a statement today.

The seven men and six women were aged between 38 and 87 years, it said.

Three deaths each were recorded in Selangor and Sabah, and two each in Johor and Terengganu. Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan and Sarawak registered one case each. 

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said active cases, which carry high transmission risks, dropped to 51,783 from a high of 52,186 recorded yesterday, as new recoveries outpaced new infections.

This is the sixth consecutive day that actives stayed above the 50,000 mark.

Noor Hisham said 3,774 more Covid-19 patients have recovered, pushing the recovery tally to 202,269.

The highest number of new cases came from Selangor (1,082), followed by Johor (777) and Kuala Lumpur (435).

A total of 3,369 of the new cases were local transmissions, of which 1,954 involved Malaysians and 1,415 were foreigners.

There were 15 imported infections, meaning they contracted the virus abroad, involving five Malaysians and 10 foreigners.

Selangor recorded the highest number of infections at 83,281, followed by Sabah with 50,997 cases, Kuala Lumpur (30,783) and Johor (28,801).
