KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 6): Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) will use its own money to fund Sarawak's Miri Airport's car park upgrade under the Malaysian government's plan to improve its terminal building.

According to the Transport Ministry's Parliament written reply to Sibuti MP Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang, the ministry's plan to upgrade Miri Airport’s terminal building remains intact.

“As a short-term solution, the ministry, through MAHB, has agreed to build additional car park facilities with MAHB’s budget.

“Although Miri Airport does not have international airport status, it can still allow international flights to run through it with its facilities that support this kind of flights, similar to airports in Malacca, Kuantan and Ipoh. These domestic airports play a role as feeder to other international airports,” the ministry said.

The ministry released today its written reply, dated Oct 30, 2017, to MPs.

Ahmad Lai had earlier asked the ministry on the progress of Miri Airport's upgrade. He also asked when Miri Airport would be given international airport status.
