KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 17): Malaysia Airlines Bhd will offer three fare options to economy-class passengers starting tomorrow (Feb 18).

In a statement today, the national carrier said the fare options, previously available only for domestic destinations, are now extended to destinations in Asean and South Asia.

Categorised under Lite, Basic and Flex, passengers on Lite fare will only enjoy the benefits of free cabin baggage of up to 7kg and complimentary meal. There will be no Enrich Miles upgrade, no free checked baggage and no seat selection, among others.

"The Lite fare caters specifically to day-trippers, business travellers and commuters," said Malaysia Airlines.

The Basic fare, meanwhile, provides passengers with free cabin baggage of up to 7kg, complimentary meal, 20kg of free check-in baggage and 10% child discount. However, there will be no seat selection, no refund and no flexibility to travel earlier on day of travel.

Passengers who are travelling on the Flex fare will enjoy the full-fledged economy-class benefits, including 30kg of check-in baggage, Enrich Miles upgrade, flexibility in changing travel dates, refunds and rebooking entitlements.

Meanwhile, passengers on the existing shuttle-eligible routes, namely the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route, will alternatively have three fare brands, which would be the Lite and Basic fares, in addition to the Shuttle fare.

"Launched in December 2019, the Shuttle fare is specially catered to seasoned and regular passengers who make multiple trips on the route and desire more flexibility in their travel plans. Passengers booked on this fare brand will receive all the benefits of the Flex brand fare and more, with a larger check-in baggage allowance of 35kg, as well as priority check-in at dedicated counters," said Malaysia Airlines.

The airline added that the introduction of the flexible fare options will affect bookings for travels made from Feb 18 onwards, but bookings made before that date will be unaffected by the changes.
