KUALA LUMPUR (April 13): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said it is still investigating the allegation that Datuk Rohana Rozhan had received US$10 million, reportedly money from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), from former Goldman Sach Group Inc banker Tim Leissner.
“According to anti-money laundering division director and deputy commissioner Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin, the investigation process is still ongoing in relation to the related assets,” said MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki in a brief response shared via text with the media.
As such, Azam asked members of the public not to speculate about the case.
He was speaking in response to news reports, including Utusan which wrote, citing sources, that Rohana had agreed to return the US$10 million — which is the price of a London home that she allegedly bought in 2013 using monies given by Leissner — to the government.
Leissner, who received kickbacks from Goldman’s arrangement of 1MDB's bond issuance totalling US$6.5 billion, testified in a US court in late February this year that he gave Rohana the US$10 million for the property she wanted after she threatened to expose his involvement in the 1MDB scandal towards the end of their relationship.
Rohana, who was the group chief executive officer of Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd from 2011 until January 2019, gave her statement to the MACC on the matter on Feb 25.
