KUALA LUMPUR (June 26): Businessman Loo Kok Seong is the new president of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) after winning the post uncontested.
In a statement on Sunday (June 26), MCCC said Ngan Teng Ye was elected as deputy president during the election for MCCC's 13th national council (2022-2025) on Saturday.
The seven vice-presidents are Kerk Loong Sing, Kevin Siah, Datuk Bong Siak Kee, Datuk Joseph Lim, Thay Peng Hong, Dutuk See Meng Geok and Datuk Jeffrey Ng.
Loo, in his speech, thanked the immediate past president — Datuk Tan Yew Sing — for his contributions and guidance over the past six years.
"Under Datuk Tan Yew Sing's leadership, we have been able to harness our diversities and recruit more multiracial members to join the national council.
"The new national council will continue to maintain its multiracial quality and work together to promote Malaysia-China relations and economic and trade development," he said.
Loo said that in order to capitalise on the new business opportunities arising from the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement, MCCC will be organising a China-ASEAN Products Exhibition in Malaysia to expand the market for its members.
He added that MCCC will be developing a one-stop "marketplace" to match Chinese investors with Malaysian goods and services providers. This is in anticipation of China increasing its investment in Malaysia.
MCCC also targets to hold at least two business delegations to China every year.
"The purpose of these trips is to promote a working relationship and to explore possibilities for trade and investment opportunities," said Loo.
