KUALA LUMPUR: KUB Malaysia Bhd (KUB), which is 23.62% owned by the Ministry of Finance Inc, has named Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohd Zin as its group managing director (MD), effective today.

In a statement, KUB said Abdul Rahim, a chartered accountant and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, has more than 25 years of experience and leadership in various fields, including banking and finance, oil and gas, shipping, and food and beverage (F&B).

According to the group, Abdul Rahim is the founder and chairman of Lyndarahim Ventures Sdn Bhd, which owns the specialty gourmet coffee chain, San Francisco Coffee Co. He was previously on the board of Global Maritime Ventures Bhd, Global Carriers Bhd and Malaysian Bulk Carriers Bhd.

“I look forward to working with the team to continue to strengthen and broaden KUB’s businesses and operations and focus the group on its mission while improving financial performance,” said Abdul Rahim.

KUB’s MD post had been vacant since Nov 1, 2014 after the contract expiration of the then MD, Datuk Wan Mohd Nor Wan Ahmad.

Earlier in April, KUB appointed Datuk Zainal Abidin Salleh to helm the company as group chief executive officer, but the 52-year-old quit barely three months in the job after allegations surfaced that he falsified his academic qualification.
