PORT KLANG: Tan Sri Kong Cho Ha has resigned as the chairman of the Port Klang Authority (PKA), Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed yesterday, adding that a new chairman will be appointed soon.
“The previous chairman has resigned,” Loke told reporters. “But we have yet to appoint the new chairman. It will take some time.”
Loke did not rule out another politician assuming the position. Kong was from the MCA and also a former transport minister.
“Let’s be very clear here. PKA is a statutory body. When I say no politicians, it applies to GLCs (government-linked companies). PKA is a regulator … politicians can be appointed to a regulatory body such as PKA,” said Loke.
“We are not tied with that condition for regulators. So you can expect that there will be some politicians appointed to certain statutory bodies,” he added.
