(April 24) The Crown Prince of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim today highlighted two Articles of the Federal Constitution on federal guarantees of State Constitutions and the sovereignty of the rulers in a tweet.

His tweet was accompanied by images of two Constitutional Articles.

The first was Article 71 which states: "The Federation shall guarantee the right of a ruler of a state to succeed and to hold, enjoy and exercise the constitutional rights and privileges of the ruler of that state in accordance with the constitution of that state; but any dispute as to the title to the succession as ruler of any state shall be determined solely by such authorities and in such manner, as may be provided by the constitution of that state."

The second was Article 181 which states: "Subject to the provisions of this constitution, the sovereignty, prerogatives, powers, and jurisdiction of the rulers and the prerogatives, powers and jurisdiction of the ruling chiefs of Negeri Sembilan within their respective territories as hitherto had and enjoyed shall remain unaffected."

Earlier, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had posted in his blog that the State Constitutions of Johor and Terenggau had been nullified by the Federal Constitution.
