KUALA LUMPUR (May 31): The government has granted Integrated Marine Works Sdn Bhd (IMW) a 15-year concession to carry out dredging and reclamation works at federal ports.

IMW has signed a new concession agreement with the Malaysian government through the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Commission/Port Authorities on Monday (May 30) to carry out dredging and reclamation works at the federal ports for the next 15 years effective after the signing of this contract.

In a statement, IMW said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong witnessed the signing ceremony.

It noted that the concession agreement was signed by Transport Ministry secretary-general Datuk Isham Ishak, together with the general managers/representatives of the Commission/Port Authorities, namely Port Klang Authority (LPK), Johor Port Authority (LPJ), Kuantan Port Authority (LPKtn), Bintulu Port Authority (LPB) and Penang Port Authority (SPPP), and IMW executive chairman Quzaim Mohamad Guljar Mohamad.

According to Quzaim Mohamad, in 2004, the government through MOT has awarded a 15-year concession to IMW to carry out dredging works at all ports in Malaysia.

The statement noted that IMW has successfully completed 247 projects in accordance with the guidelines and specifications set by MOT, and the projects were completed timely.

“IMW is also committed to fulfilling all the terms of the new concession agreement, among others, to increase the capacity of the fleet of high-tech ships and equipment with an estimated total investment of not less than RM900 million throughout the new concession,” it added.
