KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 20): The 15th General Election (GE15) is set for another upset as Perikatan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan are neck and neck in the race winning 62 and 66 seats respectively, Election Commission (EC) data showed at the time of writing.
Barisan Nasional, whose chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi earlier said it will "set aside differences" to form a stable government, has been left behind in the three-way race with 26 seats, according to EC's data.
PH's tally included one seat from Parti Ikatan Demokratik (Muda) president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman who won in Muar.
At the time of writing, the EC has announced the winners for 188 seats, with more results coming in fast.
Other coalitions and parties that have won seats in the Dewan Rakyat include GPS (22), GRS (6), Warisan (3), PBM (1) and two independent candidates.
Earlier, BN's Zahid said the coalition proposes to be a bridge between East and West Malaysian political parties, as it pointed to its poor GE15 performance and accepted it as "the will of the people".
The EC has not announced the results of Bagan Datuk, Perak, where Zahid is defending his seat.
Meanwhile other party leaders that have retained their seats include Bersatu's Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (Pagoh), PAS' Datuk Seri Hadi Awang (Marang), MCA's Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong (Ayer Hitam), Warisan's Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal (Semporna), Amanah's Muhammad Sabu (Kota Raja) and DAP's Anthony Loke (Seremban).
However Pejuang's Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad lost in Langkawi, while PBM's Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin lost in Ampang. In Sungai Siput, MIC president Tan Sri SA Vignerswaran failed to win the seat as he lost to S Kesavan from PH.
Results for Tambun, where PH chairman and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is contesting, is not yet out.
