KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 6): Plenty has been said about how Malaysia is lagging behind its regional peers in building and attracting unicorns to the country. This changed, however, when Carsome achieved that desired status in July.
Since Malaysia aims to attract up to five unicorns headquartered in the country by 2025, it is worthwhile to explore how Carsome became a unicorn and consider whether this success can be replicated. With this understanding, relevant stakeholders can create an ecosystem capable of nurturing more unicorns in the country.
DigitalEdge spoke to Carsome’s long-time investors and well-known figures in the local start-up ecosystem to try and understand what Carsome did right and what can be done to support potential unicorns in Malaysia.
