Hap Seng Consolidated Bhd has partnered Naza TTDI Sdn Bhd to bring global hotel brand Hyatt Regency to the KL Midtown project located in the RM20 billion KL Metropolis in Kuala Lumpur.
The hotel is being developed by KL Midtown Sdn Bhd, a 70:30 joint venture between Hap Seng and TTDI KL Metropolis Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Naza TTDI Sdn Bhd and the master planner for the 75.5-acre KL Metropolis.
The branding of Hyatt Regency is pursuant to a strategic partnership between KL Midtown Sdn Bhd and Hyatt Hotel Management Ltd.
“Hyatt Regency will provide a boost to KL Metropolis, where retail, trade, residences and play co-exist. It will add to Hap Seng’s hotel development efforts with Hyatt in Malaysia, complementing the recently announced Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu, which is slated to open by 2021,” said Hap Seng chairman Datuk Jorgen Bornhoft at the signing ceremony on Jan 11.
KL Midtown will occupy an 8.95-acre leasehold parcel in KL Metropolis. The five-star Hyatt Regency will offer a total of 450 guestrooms, as well as facilities such as a market café, Japanese restaurant, bar, Regency Club, lobby bar, outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre and 2,000 sq m of meeting space, which will include a 1,000 sq m grand ballroom. It is expected to open its doors by 2024.
In addition to Hyatt Regency, KL Midtown will also have luxury residences and a retail podium. It has a total gross development value of RM3.8 billion.
The hotel is designed by Kengo Kuma, whose well-known projects include the New National Stadium in Tokyo, Bamboo Wall House in China and LMVH Group (Louis Vuitton) Japan’s headquarters in Osaka.
“We will work closely with Hyatt and Kengo Kuma to create a unique property that reflects all the elements that have made the brand a preferred choice for both business and leisure travellers,” Bornhoft added.
Also present at the signing ceremony were Hyatt Hotels Corporation Asia-Pacific president David Udell and Naza TTDI deputy executive chairman and group managing director Faliq Nasimuddin.
In terms of connectivity, Hyatt Regency will be easily accessible via the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway, New Klang Valley Expressway, Sprint Expressway, Jalan Kuching and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim.
The Hyatt Regency brand has more than 195 urban hotels and resort locations in over 30 countries. The properties provide a full range of services and amenities, including the space to work, engage or relax, as well as culinary experiences and technology-enabled platforms to collaborate.
