(June 4): Former Minister Rais Yatim, who had openly criticised Umno and Barisan Nasional before the recent 14th general election, has officially joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced it during a breaking fast event in Putrajaya attended by members of the party.
Rais was given a party membership card by Mahathir during the event, Malaysiakini reported.
Rais has neither resigned nor has he been sacked from Umno, but joining Bersatu would result in an automatic termination of his Umno membership.
