KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 31): Former Johor Corp (JCorp) president and chief executive officer (CEO) Tan Sri Muhammad Ali Hashim has passed away at the age of 70, according to a Bernama report.

Muhammad Ali died about 3.30pm today at KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital. The report stated, citing close family members of the deceased, that he was admitted to the hospital for cancer treatment two months ago.

Bernama said he will be buried at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery after Isyak prayers today.

Muhammad Ali was recognised as an outstanding Malaysian corporate entrepreneur after a successful 28-year career as CEO of JCorp from 1982 till 2010.

At the end of his tenure as CEO, JCorp was recognised as one of Malaysia’s outstanding corporations with more than 280 companies and 65,000 employees. Eight companies were listed, one on the London Stock Exchange, with total market capitalisation at end-2010 of RM18.1 billion.

Muhammad Ali was also president of the Malaysian Islamic Chamber of Commerce (MICC) and chairman of Awqaf Holdings Malaysia Bhd — Malaysia’s first community-driven Corporate Waqf.
