KUALA LUMPUR (May 18): The serving of a property forfeiture by the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to Low Taek Jho’s (aka Jho Low) mother, Goh Gaik Ewe, is a violation of “fair and lawful process” and infringes on her fundamental rights, a spokesperson said via the wanted businessman’s lawyers.
Yesterday, Goh's lawyers M Puravalen and Ragunath Kesavan informed High Court judge Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan that they would be acting for her after deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Muhammad Shukri Hussain, who appeared together with DPP Fatnin Yusof and DPP Liew Horng Bin, informed the court that they were unsuccessful in serving the papers to Goh.
Following this, Justice Zaini instructed the prosecutors to serve the papers to the lawyers as they have agreed to represent her.
“The hearing today exposed the Government’s attempt to railroad the asset seizure by flagrantly violating the rules and procedures intended to protect individuals’ fundamental rights,” said Jho Low’s spokesperson in a statement yesterday.
“Once again the Government has demonstrated utter contempt for fair and lawful process.”
The notice by the AGC also involves ex-PM Datuk Seri Najib Razak, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, their three children, among others.
Goh is the 13th of 18 respondents named in the filing. — EdgeProp.my
