KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 13): edotco Group Sdn Bhd will be providing 25 sites for low-power, long-range wireless protocol (LoRa) networks in the Klang Valley to support its parent company Axiata Group Bhd's IoT aspirations with Atilze Digital Sdn Bhd.
Atilze is a wholly owned subsidiary of Yen Global Bhd.
edotco's announcement today followed a Sept 2 announcement by Axiata and Atilze that stated they would engage in trials, exploration and development activities in the pursuit of IoT - which stands for Internet of Things - opportunities across Southeast Asia.
Their immediate focus, said edotco in a statement today, would be on connected car solutions and the commercialisation of city-wide LoRa network deployments by implementing Proof-of-Concept (POC) pilots in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
LoRa technology allows connectivity solutions at reduced costs with wide coverage and efficient power consumption, which makes it an environmentally friendly solution as well, said edotco.
“The recent developments represent an exciting opportunity for edotco as our philosophy is to pursue high quality innovative telecoms infrastructure solutions,” said edotco Group Chief Sales & Marketing Officer Wan Zainal Adileen Wan Puteh.
“The efficiencies and seamless connectivity that can be achieved by leveraging our wide infrastructure coverage and regional footprint will enable breakthrough applications to be implemented,” he added.
edotco said this agreement with Axiata and Atilze follows similar agreements with Symphonet Sdn Bhd to provide the backbone infrastructure to sustain their broadband services, and with MSD Digital Intelligence Sdn Bhd, who are in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for the “Pusat Internet 1Malaysia” project that would be enabling ICT and mobile connectivity in rural areas.
edotco, a wholly owned unit of Axiata that was established in 2012, is a regional integrated telecommunications infrastructure services company in Asia with over 16,000 towers in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Pakistan and Myanmar.
