With the tagline “Everything property”, it features news reports related to the industry as well as a wide array of differing topics for the property owner and investor taking advantage of the Internet’s global appeal.
“There are already a number of websites specialising in real estate listings in the country. But what will make us stand out from them is that the edgeproperty.com will combine today’s news today with classified listings and other useful information,” said The Edge editor-in-chief Ho Kay Tat at the launch, which was supported by partners Maybank Maxihome, Island & Peninsular Sdn Bhd, Mah Sing Group, Sime Darby Property, Sunrise, Sunway City and S P Setia.
One of the highlights of the portal is the Hot Deals column tracking properties transacted and available on the market.
“The real time hot deals feature is basically a micro-tracking of property values and we think this will be of great interest to viewers simply because the government’s official transaction data is only available about three months or so after the sales and purchase agreement is signed,” said The Edge executive editor for property and retailing, Au Foong Yee.
“By which time of course, the value of a property could have changed as time is of the essence in any form of investment.”
The site also aims to be a key influencer in companies that have a direct and indirect link to real estate.
“Property developers, financial institutions, real estate agents, retailers of furniture, lighting, paints, interior decor, even household and audio visual equipment will find theedgeproperty.com a compelling digital marketing avenue,” said Edward Stanislaus, director of advertising and marketing of The Edge Communications, who also emceed the event. During the launch, he gave an overview of theedgeproperty.com.
Other components in the website are the multimedia segment, foreign news section and a featured projects section. “There will be talk shows and podcasts on property trends and issues that are sure to keep viewers connected to the market pulse,” Au said.
“I find the edgeproperty.com very rich in content,” said NK Tong, group managing director of Bukit Kiara Properties. “The depth of offerings will keep serious property investors fully informed and engaged while helping those new to Malaysian property to catch up.”
Josephine Wong, Gamuda Bhd’s head of group public affairs, noted that property portals were moving beyond its niche sphere. “I see theedgeproperty.com positioning itself as a property consultant,” she said. “It’s like an all-in-one centre.”
However, it is still early times yet to know exactly how impactful the site will be in the future. “I see the vision of the website as very daring and empowering as the emphasis is on everything property,” said Michael Geh, senior partner of Raine & Horne International Zaki + Partners (Penang).
The evening was punctuated with a tribal bellydance performance by local dance troupe The Banshees.
Also present at the launch were Terry Lim, Malayan Banking Bhd executive VP and head of mortgage & automobile financing, consumer banking; Ngian Siew Siong, MD of property development, Sunway City Bhd; Ng Heng Phai, COO of Mah Sing Properties Sdn Bhd; Lum Tuck Ming, COO and ED of Sunrise Bhd; Tengku Ab Aziz Tengku Mahmud, head of property development division, Sime Darby Property Bhd; Teow Leong Seng, CFO of S P Setia Bhd; and Noor Lida Nazri, GM of group marketing and communication, I&P Group Sdn Bhd.
