LABUAN: Drug peddlers are now going online, promoting sweet and savoury cookies and candies laced with cannabis, a tactic uncovered by Labuan police with the arrest of a youth over the weekend.

Labuan police chief Supt Adzhar Othman said police discovered that drug pushers were making sales on the Internet when they arrested a 20-year-old student whose parents turned him in.

The parents had taken their son to the police station after they found him behaving strangely, and he tested positive for cannabis.

Adzhar said initial investigations revealed that the student had allegedly consumed chocolate chip cookies believed to be laced with the drug, which he bought from an unidentified group on Facebook.

The cookies were marketed as Biskut Raksasa (monster cookies) and were sold at RM60 per jar.

“Whoever baked the cookies probably used cannabis juice as one of the ingredients as no ganja (cannabis leaves) was found in the cookies. We have sent the items to the Chemistry Department for further checks,” he said.

He said people should be wary of new tactics by drug pushers and be careful when buying items online. Besides cookies, Adzhar said other food laced with drugs, such as candies and chocolates, are also being sold online.

The case is now being investigated by the Federal Police Narcotics’ Crime Investigation Department. — The Malaysian Insider
